iPhone showing twice connected to WiFi.

So I do not use the private WiFi address feature. Never liked it or needed it at home.

just upgraded to iPhone 16’s and all our iPhone 16’s make 2 WiFi connections at the router.

one will have the iPhone’s name and the correct MAC. IPv4 and IPv6.

the other just says “iPhone” like if you were using the private address, and has an IPv4 address assigned but no IPv6 address.

both connections are on the 5GHz band. So with 3 iPhones we now have 6 connections showing. The real 3 and a shadow 3.

if we disconnect a phone; 2 disappear. Reconnect and the 2 reappear.

it’s driving me crazy why each iPhone 16 is making 2 simultaneous WiFi connections.

every time I’ve seen this brought up; someone says it’s private WiFi. I’m not using that. It’s off.

private relay is also off.

is this an iPhone 16 thing? I never noticed it with iPhone 12 generation.
