HP driver not available for Mac OS Sequoia 15.0.1

I m unable to install HP Driver for Hp Laserjet m1136 map for Mac OS Sequoia 15.0.1.

The driver available https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-laserjet-pro-m1136-multifunction-printer-series/model/4075451?sku=CE850A is updated till Mac OS 12.0 .

Tried installing HP driver provided at support.hp.com from Mac OS X 10.9 to Mac OS 12 but unable to run none of the available driver.

Anyone facing the same issue?

Though inexplicably not listed on the printer tech specs pages, and based solely on the user guide, this printer — if networked, and not USB-only model — appears to support AirPrint and TWAIN, which means vendor drivers are probably unnecessary for basic printing and scanning.

Given AirPrint support, remove the vendor drivers, then try configuring AirPrint: Print wirelessly from your Mac to your printer - Apple Support (also see page 73 in the user guide).

AirPrint usually also works with a scanner, as well.

I don’t see any direct means to update firmware listed in the user guide, which is unfortunate. And this printer seems to lack the embedded we server, which makes managing it more work.

if AirPrint does not work and apparently with no working vendor drivers, I’d likely replace this with a Brother MFC or equivalent laser/LED printer with AirPrint, and with other printing protocol support including IPP/IPPS printing. Usually also a non-subscription-printing variant.

PS: I’d also update to macOS 15.1.

There have been similar reports about other HP printers that earlier could use drivers from an HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update made available by Apple. Whether the problem is related to certificates from the printer manufacturer, new security features in the operating system, or something else is unknown to me.

As a temporary workaround, you may have to use a Windows computer for printing (HP LaserJet Pro M1136 Multifunction Printer drivers appear to exist for anything between Windows 11 and XP).

Alternatively, print from an older Mac.

A computer running Linux could also be used with this printer (https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index).

One method is to print to/save as PDF on a modern Mac, and then transfer PDF files to a compatible computer for printing.

Yet another (experimental) method could be to use an appropriately configured Raspberry Pi as a print server for the USB printer, thus possibly allowing printing via a network in an AirPrint-like way from a modern Mac/iPhone/iPad. See, for example, the replies by Techguyuk in Can’t print with iPadOS17 - Apple Community.

I successfully edited the installer package but even tho, the scaner didn't work, my Inkjet 2300 series doesn't have wifi and I can't use network features =(

Business Inkjet 2300, or a DeskJet 2300?

Assuming Business InkJet 2300, that’s seemingly most of 20 years old based on the dates on the PR materials, and lacks (predates) AirPrint, and IPP/IPPS. It’ll need vendor drivers.

You can probably scrounge a JetDirect for it (which adds networking, but won’t help with the lack of vendor drivers, or set up another computer as an intermediary for printing, but I’d replace it with something else with networking support, AirPrint, IPP/IPPS, and (for scanning) TWAIN support.

HP integrated the necessary drivers into the Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476dw printer firmware:

Use AirPrint for printing and scanning, and TWAIN support allows Image Capture app to work.

Surprisingly, or maybe not, no IPP/IPPS support. HP is very inconsistent in what they offer, oddly enough.

Here’s the manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03820385.pdf

Go to page 84, and check for and update the firmware. Chapter 9 has the HP troubleshooting, as well.

OK so I think HP made the driver for the M476DW available again via Easystart / easy Admin.

Not that it makes much of a difference in the end. I still can see the printer in the "add printer" window, but it still is "Bonjour" and not "Bonjour multifunction", so the scanner still sit available.

Again, I have an older 2018 MacBook Pro with the same version of Sequoia (the latest) where the driver had been installed and printer added before the update, and it shows the printer as "Bonjour multifunction" without a problem. Not sure what changes, if it's an Apple silicon or if it's the authorisations that the more recent versions of the system allow to the driver's install...

What's more, I see that I have about 15 iterations of HP Easy Start in the system preferences > Security and confidentiality > Local network... Not really sure on how to clean that up...

Switch to AirPrint printing and scanning, if that feature is available on the particular printer.

AirPrint entirely avoids needing the (apparently not-working here) add-on vendor drivers.

If no AirPrint support, send your HP printer and HP driver comments to HP Support.

If HP is unwilling or unable to address this, replace the printer. Preferably with a printer with AirPrint support, or with AirPrint or IPP/IPPS support if you’re using a Mac.

As a matter of fact, the drivers work OK on 15.1.

I had installed them on a M1 MacBook Air, and the update didn't break the drivers. I can go into the system prefs > printers and I will see my printer as "Bonjour Multifunction" and re-add it.

Now with an M4Pro MacBook Pro, it will only show as "Bonjour", with no access to the scanner.

If I try to add it by setting up the IP address, the scanner button will show in the printing queue, clicking it will open the image transfer app, but the printer won't show there...

Update firmware. See page 81 in the user guide, and use the control panel or the embedded web server (EWS) for that.

To access the EWS, aim your web browser at the printer IP address. If the printer IP address (on the control panel) is 203.0.113.11, aim your web browser at https://203.0.113.11

User guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03820385.pdf

Then use AirPrint. That should allow printing and scanning, with no vendor drivers. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_4503225-3102754-16

More info for this printer.

EWS password info. User guide, page 81.

For scanning with the HP drivers (not via AirPrint), HP does its own thing (step 10): http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04543482.pdf

Hi MrHoffman, Thanx,

Yes that's precisely what I have set. The firmware is updated, AirPrint is setup also...

As I said, I do see the printer in the system preferences. The scanner part just isn't showing. And it should, without using HP easy scan or similar, but directly via Apple's image transfer.

It is the case on several Macs I use and that I set up with Easy Admin download centre. These softwares have suddenly disappeared...
