What should I do if my MacBook Air won't turn on?

I have this fairly used MacBook air as a gift from my sister.

After charging it,it came up itself showing something like a mouse / on switch on the side of it.

I tried hard reset, pressed the on and off buttons and nothing worked.

Kindly assist to reboot or make the system work.

You need to connect an external mouse or trackpad. Assuming it’s this image:

…that means the internal trackpad isn’t working, and the Mac won’t boot without a mouse/trackpad available.
