iPhone 16 Pro Max minimum volume too loud

Having the volume set to 1% on an iPhone 16 Pro Max with a shortcut is equivalent to 20% on an iPhone X. The speakers are powerful, but the minimum volume is too loud. Is this only happening to me? Is it a hardware issue? Can it be fixed with an update?

Agreed. At night, in bed, or in the bathroom, we don’t want loud phones.

For all media:

  • Minimum volume with volume buttons way too loud
  • Pulling the volume slider on the screen down to 1 pixel high too loud
  • Setting a shortcut to set all media to 1% volume too loud
  • Then there’s inconsistency between apps of course. Like LinkedIn’s minimum volume doesn’t even start until about 4-6% volume on the slider (when dragging it on screen)

Last phone was iPhone 14pmx, this 16pmx is now way too loud. I think this started with the 15, because my wife has it and she doesn’t even use the on-screen volume to minimize and in bed is constantly hitting volume up/volume down button to hear things but then it’s too loud. With the 14, I was able to get things nice and quiet with the on-screen control.

Please give us fractional percent volume! Or reduce the minimum on the amplifier.

Update: it seems that in version .2 they have added an option to limit the MAXIMUM volume of the speakers, but the problem is that the MINIMUM volume is still too loud. I wish I worked there so I could fix this myself…

I fixed it! Go to settings > sounds and haptics > volume limit > and slide the slider down to 20%. That made the minimum volume quieter and fixed it for me. I had this problem with my new iPhone 16, the lowest volume was way too loud. It was driving me crazy every time I’d use my phone, especially at night or in the bathroom. Hope this helps! :)

Hello.

I upgraded from an iPhone XS Max to an iPhone 16 and I have the same problem, if I put my finger on the lowest volume on the volume screen (where a low volume sign just appears), any playback from Music App, YouTube App, BBC Sounds App for example, the minimum volume is very high.

I really hope this can be fixed with a software update and Apple Inc does it, I use the low volume a lot and now it's very high on the minimum volume, I really have difficulty with this situation.

I appreciate the attention.

Update: The problem still persists in iOS 18.3.

At this point, I don't think the bug will be fixed unless a lot of people start complaining, either here or preferably by contacting official support.

I called a few months ago, and according to them, the bug is logged, but I believe there must be a minimum number of complaints for it to be addressed. Otherwise, we could be waiting for years.

I'll keep commenting on each iOS version that comes out to report whether the bug has been patched.

So glad I’m not the only one with this issue on the iPhone 16 I thought I had broken it when fixing my volume for alarms.

I hope it is something they can fix as it’s super fidgety trying to make it as quiet as possible on the slider bar each time.
