iTunes Songs Will Not Play

Some songs will not play at all; no explanation. Others may yield a dialog box saying original could not be located; puzzling, as I have not moved them since purchasing and Apple uploads them automatically to what I assume is the same location. I must do a manual search to find the missing song, each time. What's worse, the procedure needs to be done again and again for the same song. Additionally frustrating, other purchased songs in the same album are not recognized during the procedure. So, it requires repeating the process for each and every song in that album. Why is Apple uploading songs where it cannot find them, then asking me to manually search. This is a reoccurring aggravation through several OS generations with the only resolution has been incumbent on the customer to delete the file, then download again from the purchase history on the store repeatedly. As a devoted Apple customer for 30+ years, I've grown increasingly disappointed with performance and service.
