Change the Finder Window Size Permanently plus 'Open Folders in Tabs Instead of New Windows' Bug
Change the Finder Window Size Permanently
To change the Finder window size:
1. Open a new Finder window using the Finder icon in the Dock(make sure all other Finder windows are closed).
2. Hold Command and Option/Alt simultaneously and resize/reposition your window however you like.
3. Close the window.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 but instead of clicking the Finder icon in the dock, open any folder on your Desktop.
(Tested on macOS Sequoia macOS 15.0.1)
Test case 1: From the Menu Bar
Action: From Finder in the Menu Bar, select 'New Finder Window'.
Expected behaviour: Opens Finder window in desired size and placement.
Actual behaviour: Opens Finder window in desired size, not placement.
(Pass, Sort of)
Test case 2: CMD+Option+N (Keyboard shortcut)
Action: Press CMD+Option+N
Expected behaviour: Opens Finder window in desired size and placement.
Actual behaviour: Opens Finder window in desired size, not placement.
(Pass, Sort of)
Important: All these years I'd been using CMD+N to open Finder windows. I don't know if Apple changed the keyboard shortcut to CMD+Option+N or whether I'd been doing it incorrectly all this time. Either way, CMD+N still opens a Finder window for me, but with very erratic results, like small Finder windows.
That's the good news. Now, the bad news.
Bug: Open Folders in Tabs Instead of New Windows
Test case 3: From the Dock > New Finder Window
Pre-condition: Finder option, "Open Folders in Tabs Instead of New Windows" is checked.
Action: Right-Click on the Finder dock icon, select 'New Finder Window'.
Expected behaviour: Opens Finder window in desired size and placement.
Actual behaviour: Opens Finder window in undesired size. (Fail, Bug)
(Fail)
