"No mobile coverage" is draining my iPhone 11's battery

While I was using an iPhone 11 and joined o2 I started seeing that “no mobile coverage” would be high up my battery list using 20/30%. I had never seen the issue before on other networks. My wife and daughter are on the same network and never have this listed on their battery usage. Anywho I recently updated to a 16 and gave the 11 to my daughter. The situation has improved on my new 16 more like 10% now. The no coverage situation on the 11 has disappeared now my daughter is using it. What could be the possible factors for this situation?

Are all 4 phones in the same location all the time? Or do you, perhaps, go away from home at times to locations where the signal might be weaker?

Another possibility is your network settings may be corrupted. Try resetting them:

  • Open Settings
    • Tap General
    • Tap Transfer or Reset Phone
    • Tap  Reset
    • Tap Reset Network Settings

    • This will erase all Wi-Fi passwords, but will not result in any other data loss.

Lastly, contact your carrier’s tech support. If you migrated an eSIM from the previous phone it have been corrupted. So 2 things the carrier can do to troubleshoot:

  • Remove, then reprovision your account
  • Issue a new eSIM.

Hi thanks for your reply. I appreciate what you are saying and can understand that it can be an issue in certain locations and circumstances. But in my case I have 3 other iPhones in the house that show no signs of ‘no coverage’ issues and the problem has migrated to my new phone and disappeared from my old phone. You would expect in a poor signal area to see the other 3 phones to be exhibiting some signs of ‘no mobile coverage’? Could there be any other explanations that have to do with the network provider or phone settings? Thanks

No the phones are not together all the times. But I do check, say on the weekends when we are all together. Further, my kids go into dead zones, during the week but they never ever get "no mobile coverage" registering on their battery readouts. I did request a new physical sim but the situation has stayed the same. I will have to myther my network provider a little more to dig deeper into the problem.

This situation reminds me when I was with Vodafone a while back and I ported my number in from a different provider and I couldn't get any mobile data for about a month because of their network data settings. At first they said it was a physical problem with the phone so I took it back and got a replacement but the issue remained, that's when they took a deeper look and did some faffing in the background.

I will try the reset first as suggested and see how it goes but I suspect there is some technical tomfoolery going on in the background at O2.

Thanks for the help.
