OSX freezes when open/save dialog windows are requested

It's the same problem as what is described here: How to fix unresponsive open and save dia… - Apple Community. In short, whenever an open or save dialog window is requested by an application, there is a long freeze, which often results in no dialog window being shown. Multiple attempts do not yield different results. This has happened in XCode, Edge, Teams, and many other applications. There is no dependency on disk space and I do not use any extensions in Finder.

I am having this problem with 15.0.1 and it was happening with 15.0.0 as well. I never had the issue in 14.x. Disabling iCloud does not help. The only thing that seems to temporarily help is restarting, but the problem reoccurs shortly thereafter. It is extremely disruptive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you run Disk Utility's Disk First Aid on all connected drives?

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.
