Incorrect Apple Account password for 'Sign in to Podcast' pop-up on Mac

Pop-up on Mac "Sign in to Apple Media Services..." keeps popping up. It says "Sign in to Podcast" but podcasts is already open and running. Putting in my AppleID password says wrong password, even though it is correct. Can't make it stop.

Hey Bob the Lobster!

Typically when this happens either you are signed into iCloud and Media and Purchases with different accounts, OR something purchases in another app, such as Music/iTunes/App Store, etc. was purchased with a different Apple account, that you are not signed in with, hence why it wouldn’t accept the correct credentials you are using to authenticate it.

Could you please confirm either:

If you are signed in to two diffeeent accounts in System Settings > Apple Account > iCloud/Media?

Or:

If you’ve had a different Apple account in the past other than the one that is signed in to your Mac?

Cheers! Glad to help out if I can, as anyone else here!

Hey again, no worries.

If you check your System Settings > Apple Account, (Formally referred to as Apple ID), you’ll probably see two different accounts, one in iCloud and the other in Media/Purchases.

If you don’t, then you may be signed in with this other account separately in any number of apps, whether it be App Store or the TV app.

It may confuse things less if you were to sign in and stick with one account for both, although those purchases cannot be transferred to another Apple account, so that might make you not want to separate them. Some people prefer to keep separate accounts, while others may mistakenly have two accounts in use for different services.

In any case they are two different Apple accounts, as long as you don’t lose access to either should be just fine.

@DiZoE, you diagnosed the problem correctly. I had not realized AppleID == Apple Account, so when the App Store asked me to log in with my "Apple Account", I assumed it was different than AppleID, so made a new password. Now, I am finding challenges, as some Apple things want password #1 and others want pw#2.

Any suggestions for how to merge them back together?

I tried simply changing the PW for App Store to my current AppleID PW, but it refuses, saying to reset the new PW to one I have not used before.
