macOS Monterey Calendar pop-up: “The server responded with an error”

It started today: whenever a scheduled Calendar event alert appears on my monitor, the Calendar icon in the Dock starts jumping because this error has popped up in Calendar. I get the same pop-up error whenever I create, edit or move a Calendar event on my iMac (OS Monterey):

No matter which of the (3) options I choose, eventually I will have to click “Ignore” twice to get that pop-up to disappear. The event itself does not seem to be affected: if I made changes, they stick.

This appears to be an issue only in the iMac Calendar. iPhone and iCloud Calendars do not send up server errors and are sync’ing properly.

I tried re-booting into Safe Mode: the Calendar server error persists there as well.

While in Safe Mode, I checked my User Startup Items in System Preferences and removed “Adobe Collaboration.” No joy. I tried to view a screenshot on the Desktop by selecting the .png and pressing the spacebar: the Finder locked up for several seconds and then threw me back to the log-in screen.

The same thing happened after two more Safe Mode log-ins when trying to view a Desktop screenshot.

I created a Calendar archive .icbu.
