Software Management Centre
My software management centre showcases my school, and I am just wondering if this means that they have control over my laptop.

"Software Management Centre" is not a part of macOS. That would be something the school would have provided. It, in and of itself, does not indicate they have control of your Mac.
Open System Settings > General > Device Management. Is there a management profile installed? If so, then they have control.

Did they provide the computer to you? If so, it is certainly a managed device and they have a custom app store and control over your device.
If it is your computer and enrolled it in a device management service to access the school resources, then they have control over your device and you need to remember to un-enroll it when you are done school.

You are correct of course - but that SMC looks like a customized App Store replacement of the kind one finds on managed devices, so I'm willing to bet there's a management profile.
Seems like a normal third-party app used to purchase software licensed by the school: Managed Software Center for Mac - Technology Help
