After a macOS upgrade Spotlight will be re-indexing. If you have a large number of files and a big disk this can take quite some time. As in multiple days to finish indexing.

FYI - Apple Silicon Macs running modern macOS releases may automatically optimize your battery. This means that it may discharge to 80% if it is always plugged into AC power. There is an option on the battery icon on the menu bar to charge to full now which can take approximately an hour from 80% charge. The reason for the 80% is that keeping a Lithium Ion battery fully topped up constantly will cause the battery to degrade faster than it would otherwise. Likewise, Lithium Ion batteries do not like to be fully discharged to 0% either.

You might have 3rd party software that is somewhat broken and that may be draining your battery power as a result. Using the Activity Monitor you can see what apps are taking all the energy.

I have the exact same problem, with a MacBook Pro. Just sitting overnight in my laptop bag -- and starting with 100% battery -- the battery drains...and I can't even START the computer without plugging it in. I checked the "Battery Health," and System Settings says it's "Normal." One post recommended to "Reset SMC" -- so I did. That seems to have improved things a bit; at least now the battery doesn't drain completely in 1-2 hours while just sitting idly with the lid closed, in "Sleep" mode. But it didn't solve the problem completely. (And to be fair, it may have been the Sequoia 15.1 update that is responsible for this.) The consensus on this and other Mac Internet forums, seems to be that eventually Apple with solve this problem -- and the solution will come via a Software Update. In the meantime, you might get at least some improvement by updating to 15.1 and performing a "Reset SMC."
