On my MBP (14", m1), all desktop-icons in the finder have disappeared after installing Sequoia 15.01. However, this occured only a few days after the upgrade. "Fun" fact: when hiding all windows in Finder (ctrl-option-down arrow), the icons pop up, only to get lost when the windows are unhidden. Help please!

Do you have "Show Items" enabled "On Desktop" and "In Stage Manager" in System Settings > Desktop & Dock? If so, try toggling them off then on again.

This worked! "Show Items" enabled "On Desktop" and "In Stage Manager" in System Settings > Desktop & Dock" did the trick and everything showed up on Desktop. Makes me wonder how that got turned off --- Thank you so much dialabrain!
Boot into Restore mode,CMD+r keys...
Look at top of screen for Utilities menu...
In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.
Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.
You can use Drive DX to possibly get a better view of Drive health…

It didn't launch until I clicked on it in the dock. Hence my suggestion to relaunch.
If you have a Finder window open it will reopen after "Relaunch". If not, it will open a new Finder window when you click on the Finder icon.
Let's see what this does for us...

~ tilde indicates your home folder
Apple hid the Users' Library folders...
Method 1:
1 From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder.
2 In the window that opens, enter ~/Library/LaunchAgents, and click Go.
Runnning Disk First Aid in restore mode wasn't helping, here is Etrecheck's report, thanks a lot for looking into this.
That happened to me last night. I went to the Apple Logo in the menu bar > Force Quit > Finder > Relaunch.
I had to do this twice..... And then they came back.

I tried Force quit 3 times to no avail, I also started the macbook in safe mode, and I ran Onyx to tidy up the whole thing. Still no success. I'm looking around a bit more, this is such an annoyance.
