My @me.com was given to someone with the same username @gmail.com

My old iCloud email (used with an iPhone 4) ending with @me.com was given to someone with the same username @gmail.com, so I cannot change or delete the iCloud account on one of my old iPhone. When I try to change my password I am asked to verify a phone number that is not mine, but belongs to the phone of the username@gmail.com - I noticed in earlier community messages that previous @me.com account names where associated with @gmail.com accounts, but someone already had my username (matching @me.com) in gmail.

Let's say my original iCloud email was abc939@me.com and I used to have access to this email (issued by iCloud if I recall correctly). Since I did not change it when @me.com was not used anymore, this is email is still used on my iPhone since I cannot delete it. If I try to change the password then it ask me to verify a number that is not mine. Instead it is the phone number of someone who has the alias email abc939@gmail.com. Thanks for responding.
