Undo Duplicate Photos

I just accidentally made duplicates of 800 photos on my iPad. Now every picture has a copy sitting right next to it. Is there a way to undo the duplicates all at once or do I have to open each individual picture and delete them one by one?

I already tried the duplicates utility and it doesn’t recognize any of the duplicate photos even though I can still see Two of everything right on my screen

If this happens in the future, the first thing you should do is shake the iPad to get an "Undo" choice to come up. But you have to do that before anything else-- undo works only for the most recent operation.

The duplicates are absolutely identical-- except that the new ones don't occur in the albums that the originals are in. So if your pictures were in albums, you don't want to delete the wrong ones.I f you have a Mac, then you can use a smart album to search for pictures not in an album. (I can't think of a way to separate them on an iPad.)

It takes awhile for Photos to scan through all the pictures to find Duplicates. Waiting might be your best bet. You might gather them all into an album to corral them. When you choose Merge in Duplicates, one will be deleted (it goes to Recently Deleted) and the other will be put in any albums that either was in.
