M-Audio problem with Macbook Air M3

Hi, I have a MacBook Air 15" with M3 chip, just bought new. When I connect my M-Audio M-quad audio I/O device, it's not getting picked up.

It shows up under the USB3 section in hardware settings, but not under Thunderbolt. I can't select it as an audio input or output device in audacity.

I am using a USB-A to usb-3 adapter. I didn't think that would impact anything.

But it isn't working right and currently I can't work.... Not sure if it is due to Sonoma or the M3 chips. Connecting to USB-C as input sound source w/mini-jack & USB-C adapter I am trying to connect an external sound source to my MacBook M1 so it can used with GarageBand. Guitar amp... > headphone output > mini-jack cable > USB-C adapter > MacBook USB-C input > System Settings or GarageBand input sound source > Record to a track in GarageBand I don't see a sound input source for the USB-C. System Settings and GarageBand only show the internal mic and a set of bluetooth headphones that I regularly use. How do I select any incoming sound source through the USB-C? Or won't the mini-jack cable and USB-C adapter idea work in this scenario? If not, what is the correct way to connect the amp using its headphone output using a mini-jack? It has to convert using an adapter, right? Or does Apple not allow this? I thought that what I was doing would work, but alas... Thanks in advance :)

No Audio into Garageband Garageband just stopped getting audio from my Rodecaster Pro since latest update. i think it's a mac issue.. seems like audacity does not receive audio too.. any ideas would be appreciated. Sonoma 14.5 on M1 iMac
