Apple Watch series 2 is not charging

My watch does not show any activity when it's plugged in. Usually I double tap it to see that the connection is good and the home screen shows my daily activity. It started to not charge. Then it showed only the time screen when I kept pressing on two side buttons. Now it won't charge at all. It's paired with my phone and I'm in another country on a wifi and all is good. Using my iphone the apple watch battery shows 49%. My iphone is fully charged. I've read all the solutions which amount to only holding the two buttons until the apple logo appears. Nothing.
