Macbook Pro 16 with M3 Pro 18 GB super slow

Hello community,

I've upgraded from a 2015 Macbook Air to a Macbook Pro M3 Pro 18 GB and have been disappointed by the speed. Sometimes it's even lagging when doing simple browsing. (I know Chrome sucks but shouldn't be this bad). I use Rekordbox mainly and Logic Pro X (not together); sometimes logic shuts completely. I only downloaded a few plug-ins to Logic. I also recently updated the software, but I've experienced the same issue before and after.

I wouldn't define my usage as heavy usage yet still very slow. Can anyone help me solve the issue?

It's been a few months, or I would've returned it. It wasn't slow initially but I started noticing a while later. I tried to read some online comments and did the EtreCheck test, pasting it below, thank you in advance.

the two most glaring issues in your report [in my opinion] are that you are using Chrome for your browser, which is an enormous resource hog.

and this:

    /Applications/ExpressVPN.app

If you need to be "present" on an institutional network, a VPN is a great tool for accomplishing this. it is generally issued and controlled by the institution.

Almost all other uses are a SCAM. There is generally no need for you to have a private connection to a VPN Vendor's Network, except to make it easier for them to harvest your data to sell.

if VPN vendors just stopped there, that would be bad. But many of these packages also insist on scanning all your files, non-stop, -- nominally looking for viruses, but who knows for sure what data they are harvesting. Their non-stop file reading punishes your computer's performance in the process.

Some also break into your other secure connections so they can be FIRST to examine your data, often leaving your Mac MORE vulnerable to attack.

In most cases, having a VPN Installed on your computer (actively engaged or not) is like being only Slightly pregnant.

For a far less resource consuming Browser, Safari is the obvious choice. if you hate the idea of using "what Apple handed you" consider Third-party Firefox, that is not selling your data to run its company.

... and speaking of not selling your data, my son suggested selecting (inside Safari) Duck Duck Go as a substitute search engine (not for the complete browser) and I was amazed at perfectly high quality searching without the cacophony of ads in every corner of every page. I have lost NOTHING but abuse by this selection, and have never considered going back to Google-search.
