11 inch M2 iPad Pro freezing sporadically.

So, as normal for me I Purchased a then new 11 inch 4th Gen M2 iPad Pro. Just about a month before Apple release the M4 version.

Anyway, recently since updating to iPadOS 18. and now 18.0.1 I have noticed that when I have on the Internet and browsing comments, vids, on YouTube, pretty much any site, my iPad will freeze up out of no where. I can be typing a message like this post and it will just freeze up. I tap on other objects and Icons and no response like its dead in the water.

about 15-30 seconds later it will finally respond but then dumps whatever i have been doing and puts me back to the beginning. I lose anything I may have been doing.

a few times I have noticed that it will sort of crash and go to a black screen with tiny booting cog wheel spinning and within 40 seconds I am back to the home screen. This is becoming a daily habit, and as you can guess very frustrating.

For web browsing, I stick with Safari. I don’t use the apps for Facebook, YouTube etc as the website experience seems to be much better. I also noticed that sometimes the on-screen keyboard the one i prefer to use doesn’t always pop up when I am in an area that I am expecting to type, and yes the area on the webpage normally functions but again it glitches when the keyboard doesn’t want to appear. Or when I am trying to type something and need to go from top to bottom to copy and paste the ipad will bounce to another page. Or it seems like it wont recognize my tapping the area before the beginning of a post when I atruing to select all.

Thanks for your reply, I contacted Apple Support and after they had me send them two diagnostic reports, they said it was a software issue “Stability.?” Failed and that i could do one of a few things, connect my iPad to a computer, Put the iPad in recovery mode and do a factory restore. (Not a solution i can do since I no longer own a computer) Poor commercials when the Suggests that an iPad can replace our computers (an expensive mistake I now have learned).

Since I have AppleCare+ I can have an expedited one sent with a Credit Card Hold of over $1,000. I guess they just assume that if you have any of their devices you must have money to burn and of course I do not have a credit card for them to just slap a 10 day hold on.

Solution number three take an Uber 30 miles to my nearest Apple Store and let them take care of it. another out of pocket expense. Either way this is going to cost me and now I wonder if its worth getting AppleCare+ at all.

I know I shouldn’t expect them to think differently, for those of us who only have an iPad as their only computing device. May be disabled without transportation to one of their stores that are always miles away and only in area where rich people live. (Sorry just venting here a bit)

I guess some things to consider before anyone uses an iPad as their daily driver of a computer. And this is where many of the so-called normal solutions fail.

For what it's worth, I've seen this issue occur several times with an iPad Pro M1. When switching between Apps, sometimes an App will hang for a few seconds - and then seemingly crash. A corresponding Analytics log will be generated when this occurs.

What is likely occurring is resource exhaustion - causing an App to crash when restoring a process to a foreground (i.e. running) state.

Given the relative immaturity of iPadOS 18.x, having only been released a month ago, it is highly likely that the problem will be resolved as this version of iPadOS matures. Should you choose to do so, you might usefully submit a bug report to Apple. For iPad and iPadOS:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

If submitting a Bug Report, please ensure that you include details of your iPad model and installed version of iPadOS within the body-text of your report. Don't rely upon the pick-list - as this rarely includes the current versions.
