How to disable full screen mode on mac?

Lately my window, often a browser window but not necessarily, has been popping into full screen mode, maybe after I touch something in the menu bar. It's annoying and I'd like it to stop, I like my windows the sizes that they are. How can I disable this automatic function? Thanks!

System Settings > Desktop & Dock

Scroll down and un-check "Drag windows to menu bar to fill screen"

When you do this, is the menubar and the window controls (the coloured buttons at the top left of each window) disappearing or not?

If not, then the window may be zooming to fill the screen without going to fullscreen. This may be due to settings in System Settings>Dock where double-clicking the window's title bar is set to zoom (with tap to click set on a trackpad or magic mouse, it can happen inadvertently).

If it is fullscreen, there are other settings related to spaces and Stage Manager that (I think) can have this kind of effect, although I'm not on a Sequoia machine at the moment to test that.

Third-party software is the other possibility of course.

Hello! I've looked for "tiling" and checked the appropriate features, though really none were appropriate, to no avail. I also couldn't find "Drag windows to menu bar to fill screen" which also is not exactly is what is happen as I am not "dragging" anything when this happens, maybe clicking, though maybe not even that, just opening? I am grateful for the advice so far!

Perhaps some of those keys with 'letter/number' F1 combinations, may accidentally

bring up the 'full-screen' mode; & another might reduce it to normal; once found?

Another general purpose key, to learn which keyface it's hiding under, may

be find the ESC (escape) key; because this can help find some Sanity, too.

Some other options could include the Keyboard Viewer that can be used in

advance of odd issues, & review all key appearances with all function keys.
