How to remove voices in FCPX?

Hey folks,

Any guidance for someone trying to use FCP (10.8.1) to remove voices while retaining other sounds in the video clip? The most promising suggestion I've seen is here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/finalcutpro/comments/18wxqni/voice_isolation_a_way_to_apply_it_to_totally/

Which is essentially:

1) Detach the audio

2) Duplicate audio

3) Sync audio

4) Use voice isolation on one clip

5) A apply gain effect using the inverse feature on the 2nd clip, thereby "cancelling out" the voices...

Seemed promising but I can't seem to get it to work and I don't know why... Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Depending on your video and the type of background sounds you want, the simplest way is to delete the audio track and replace it with general background sound effects.

Alternatively you could cut out chunks of background sounds from your video, remove the original audio and put in the cut out bits. As they will no longer stretch the whole of the video, you can duplicate them to reach the end.

As for removing the voices and leaving the background intact, I think you are searching for the impossible.
