Mail cannot verify account name or password

Hi there,

I have a MacBook Air, running the most recent MacOS, just to start off. My apple Mail all of a sudden is not working (about a month now), I'm getting the above message for all 3 of my email accounts. I tried to delete one and re-add it, and I'm not able to at all. I've read through many of the answers to people who have previously had this question and nothing is working. Does anyone know how to fix this in this year? My husband is having the same issue on his iPhone 15 pro max. Very frustrating not having our emails working, for no apparent reason either, besides upgrading our devices? Thanks for any help you can provide

We were able to finally figure it out; because our accounts are all Microsoft and they are enforcing 2 factor authentication, we had to delete our emails and re-add them as Microsoft Exchange or Outlook accounts, and basically 'give' permission to run the emails under Apple Mail.

Apple has no clue what your user name or passwords is for your mail account unless it is icloud.

Your mail provider is the one who can't verifying your account , not Apple.

If you choose not reach out to your mail provider to troubleshoot, then good luck to you.

And what did your mail provider say when you reported the issue to them?
