keeping a NAS logged in when restarting computer
After mapping a NAS and then restarting computer the NAS is no longer logged in. I have to map the NAS every time I start up my computer. I can I keep it logged in?

Unlike directly connected external drives, which will mount by themselves every time you start up or restart your computer, servers will not do that.
To automatically log in to a server on a Mac, you can use the Login Items & Extensions settings to choose which items open automatically when you log in.
I tested this with my own NAS and it works.
That's it. Now (as long as the server is on), any time you start up, or restart your Mac, it will automatically mount the NAS.

Why do all of that when you can just add the server as a login item? Then it mounts as soon as you start up or restart your Mac without having to click anything.
If you creat a new folder in right side of your Dock then mount a share mounted share! Then make an alias of the mounted share and move that alias to you dock folder that you just made! This what you click on alias of the share if you saved the password of course! This will auto connect when you click that alias!
I keep my network shares in the Sidebar. You have to click on them to connect, so not as handy as a login item, but I’m not always connected to those networks.
Is mounted then go to right side of dock and make a new folder calling it something like connected devices like you NAS! ASL you can put that mounted share in new dock in right side of your dock! Also open #System Presences and lock to add to opening account!
I'm sorry but I couldn't follow your suggestion. I tried dragging the NAS mounted alias from the desktop to the right dock but it wouldn't take. I don't understand "#System Presences and lock to add to opening account!"
DropBox and OneDrive (external "drives") stay connected after shutting down. Both are in Login Items "Allow in the Background."
I don't understand why it is so hard to "map" an external drive in MAC OS and have it stick after shutting down.
There clearly must be a straightforward way to do this in Mac OS.
