iMovie app doesn't show clear picture

I'm new to iMovie. I just want to edit my mpeg-4 movies to remove some extra material. When I drag & drop the movie into the app, it show up with a green tint and the upper right pane is all pixellated. The movie plays OK, but this makes it hard to edit. Why does it look this way?

Hi,

Try this, if deleting preferences doesn't solve it.

Put the clip on your desktop. Control-click on it and, in the resulting pop-up menu, click on Encode Selected Video files. Follow the screen options. Then encode. You will get a re-encoded video on your desktop in addition to your original video. Import the re-encoded video into your project timeline and see if it displays normally.

This is to rule out a format or rendering issue that might be causing the green tint.
