Downloading DV tapes to MacBook Pro to edit

I have a PV-DV601 Palmcorder and many recorded tapes which I want to download to my MBpro. I have done this with a complicated set of components. Is there is a simpler more direct path to iMovie?

Thanks very much for your prompt reply. We did finally achieve a successful transfer, using all the equipment shown below, as well as some downloaded software, and a fair amount of time, fumbling and bumbling with all the settings. We took this approach because we already had the ultra studio mini recorder, but it was such a complex and challenging approach that I thought I would reach out to the community to see if there was a simpler way of achieving the same end. It looks like your suggestion might have been the simpler approach I was looking for, thank you.

DV tapes were usually transferred by Firewire but as that no longer exists on modern Macs you have to buy one or more very expensive Apple converters which may or may not work.

There are some very inexpensive devices that connect to your camera's A/V sockets which can do the job though I have no experience of them myself. The quality may not be up to Firewire standards.

USB Video Capture

Hi there;

A new issue has developed. I managed to get this working on an older MBpro but when I tried to replicate on a newer 2020 intel MBpro for practical reasons - larger memory, more ports, I was unsuccessful. My computer no longer recognizes the mini-recorder. I've tried downloading several different drivers from Blackmagic to no avail. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Please forgive my ignorance, 'Apple Silicon'?

It's a bother but it works so I will go back to using my old computer. The challenge is that the video capture is at 1040 but the video output is at 480. A 30 minutes of tape eats up more than 100G and I've got loads of 60 and 90 minute tapes. I guess I'll have something to do when the PNW monsoons begin shortly.
