Yahoo POP mail with El Captain and app password?

I have seen the many threads on year and have been trying to get this to work for a few hours now.

I am trying to receive mail using Mac Mail and a Yahoo account.

I have used the yahoo generated app password but it just keeps coming back with unable to connect to POP.

Can send via SMTP but cant receive.

Trying to avoid IMAP as I have lost messages in the past using that where I have deleted a message from a mobile device and not seen it again when home. At least with POP it stays on the server and you see it as new message on all your machines or devices.
