Took a photo and camera heated up. Camera has frozen and won’t respond

The phone will always heat up using the camera; the CMOS sensors each use a lot of energy, and there are 3 of them. You can force-quit the camera→How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support


If the problem returns contact Apple support and they can run diagnostics.

No, but it will get the OP's phone unfrozen so they can possibly use it until they can take it to Apple for repair.

Never had a phone get it from using the camera.

Yes, it happens if you use the camera a lot at one go. Especially videos.


In 17 years I have never had an iPhone get hot from using the camera.

Isn't that interesting that you and Lawrence have owned iPhones for exactly that same length of time. Interesting co-incidence.
