I create an annual video from photos and videos of my friend's dog, that l have on my samsung phone.
I like to burn it onto dvd and give as part of her Christmas present.
But how do l convert the video and burn onto a dvd using
my i-mac???

As Keith Barkley said you'll need an app that will create a video DVD that will play on a DVD player. There are several at the App Store, some are free. Just search for "dvd creator". I use DVD Maker Lite - DVD Creator also from the App Store.
You'll need a blank video DVD disc and burn it at the slowest speed available to get the best burn.
You can use iMovie on the Mac to burn that vid to DVD using an external DVD optical disc player/burner. There are many brand options available and compatible with Mac if you google it.
Another software option is Toast by Roxio.

Then you will have to use something like Toast. iMovie can only copy video files to the DVD, not make a DVD playable on a player.
