macOS Sequoia 15.1 update printer problem

I updated my m1 MacBook Air today. I cannot use my Epson 630 printer anymore. Is there a way to use it with my computer? Please advise, thank you. Philgo

FIXED! (for me at least)

Decided to have another go.

  • Deleted all printers in System Settings/Printers & Scanners.
  • Uninstalled everything via the Epson uninstaller.
  • When I checked to see if there were any leftovers I discovered there was a whole bunch of stuff still in Mac/Library/Printers - I deleted everything in that folder. Checked Home/Library/Printers too but it was empty.
  • Went to Epson's support page for my printer, set my OS to Mac 15+ and downloaded everything. I noticed that the driver was dated October 4, 2024. I installed absolutely everything - even the stuff I didn't really need. Ran the Epson updater to see if I had the most recent versions and the only thing it updated was itself [roll eyes]
  • Rebooted my machine and checked System Settings/Privacy & Security/Local Network for anything that might need enabling - there was only the Epson Updater and Epson Updater Agent and they were already enabled.
  • Switched on the printer, went back to System Settings/Printers & Scanners and added the printer.
  • Test print worked. Test scan also. Hurrah!

Now I don't know whether it was a slightly newer driver (I'm sure I'd tried that version before) or whether it was deleting the orphan files in the Library folder that the uninstaller missed, but I'm pleased to report that everything is working as it should (for me).

Of course this might not work for everyone but hopefully there might be a step that I took that might help someone else.

Hi, the model is: HP Officejet 4255 all-in-one

HP OfficeJet 4255 All-in-One (with phone) looks to be at least a decade old, lacks AirPrint support, and the tech specs show no common printing services (IPP/IPPS, telnet, lpr/lpd, RAW, etc), which greatly limits your printing options.

Some vendors manufacture some printers don’t include other printing services, don’t include or predate AirPrint, and thus require printer vendor drivers. Drivers which may eventually not be available. This is seemingly one example.

If resetting the printing system and loading the latest drivers or printing app from HP do not work here, you’ll need heroic efforts at best use that printer. For example, using an older copy of macOS running in a virtual machine with the older vendor drivers, or setting up some other computer as an AirPrint relay, for instance. Or replacement.

(There is an HP DeskJet 4255e, as well.)

For HP printers, download the HP Smart app from the apple App Store. when you run it find your networked printer and select. give it a few minutes. it will then prompt you to allow the 'diagnose and fix' part of the app. allow that and it will fix whatever the issue is and place the printer back into your printer list. may be best to clear that out before you try this. This worked for two Mac laptops, one a new Air and one an older MacBook Pro

Same here, ESET, firewall, even uninstalled and reinstalled the Canon and it worked!

But, the next morning when I turned the Canon Pixma back on, Mac says the printer is offline.

I've tried turning the ESET firewall off again, but still not printing.

I don't really want to reinstall the printer every day :(

I can print from my iPad & phone, so must be Sequoia

3 months later: I've downloaded the Canon TRS4722 printer drivers today 5 times...and it still does not list the updated drivers in the Apple printer page when adding printer. I purchased a USB cable and updated the software and followed all instructions for USB 6 times, included watching video which made it look easy until I realized it was for OS in 2023. I downloaded the printer driver from Apple and it's only for OS 12 and below. This is not a printer or person who doesn't know how to follow instructions, this is an Apple software update which does not support this printer which is less than 1 year old!!!!!!!!!!!

Vendor printer drivers are not necessary for Canon PIXMA TR4722, as that printer supports AirPrint.

Connect the printer to the local network, and use AirPrint.

This looks like it might get your printer connected to your Wi-Fi (unfortunately, the Canon doc here is murky at best):

See page 178 to update the printer firmware, and then see page 199 for setting up AirPrint:

I’ve been unimpressed with Canon printers, and similarly unimpressed with Canon documentation, typos and all.

I've used AirPrint, the Apple printer update states it does not work on Sequoia 15; the latest router, WiFi and also used USB cable. ALL of have failed miserable. I've tried each one of these MULTIPLE times. And I can't afford a new printer at the moment, especially since I just purchased this one in April of 2024. VERY disappointing with Apple's new update.

AirPrint works on macOS 15, or we’d be getting more than the usual numbers of printer issues.

No Apple printer update is involved with printing, no add-on vendor drivers, no add-on printer drivers.

At most, you might need a scanner driver, though there are references to TWAIN in the manual and that can mean Image Capture app will work.
