Migrating Adobe software and files from 2015 to 2021 MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro (2021) with macOS Sonoma 14.1 and a MacBook Pro (Retina 2015) with macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

1) I'd like to transfer my files and applications from the 2015 to the 2021 and understand I should the Migration assistant utility

2) I embarrassed to say I am currently paying for the month subscription to the updates for my Adobe software but haven't really been using those updates because my 2015 can't be updated to do so

3) If I only have the original software on the 2015, is that going to be an issue regarding the migration?

4) After the migration, will I still be able to access those applications and software on the 2015 apart from the 2021? Kinda like my 2015 would be my "backup" so to speak in case something weird happens with the 2021.

5) I'm a big procrastinator as you can see and a little averse to change but I need to do this

1) Backup your 2015 MBP to an external Time Machine backup drive. The easiest way to transfer you files will be to connect that TM drive to the new MBP the first time you start it up to personalize it and let the Setup Assistant migrate your user files and network settings but not the applications. Those old 32-bit applications won't run on a modern Mac. Migration Assistant can be used if you have already setup your new Mac, but you'll want to direct connect the two computers rather than count on a wi-fi connection.

2) It happens.


3) The old software most likely won't run on the modern Mac. You'll need to install fresh versions of your Adobe apps on the new MBP.


4) You should be able to continue to use the old apps that are already installed on the older MBP.


5) Admitting the problem exists is the first step to recovery. 🙂👍🏽
