Battery for 2009 Mac Pro tower

Could someone tell me what number [ 2032, 2018 etc..] lithium battery works with a 2009 Mac pro tower?

I'm having similar boot up problems suddenly. Haven't used it for about 3 years

Sleep mode...press power button......starts up for 1 second....shuts down

I'm hoping its the battery has quit.

thx for any help

The battery is on the mainboard, half-hidden behind the graphics card.

Be sure to shine a VERY bright light at the retainer when removing it. The retainer is just a little different, and you need to look hard at it and understand how to get the battery out.

this is a good source of videos, but they don't have one for the battery.

Thx so much for that info. As it turned out I had an ancient G5 which also quit on me this week so thought i'd practise on it.

Dropped a CR 2032 in.....and its working again!

Is the 2009 machine much different internally from the G5??..... I'd like to do the same battery fix with it. [assuming thats the same problem]

Any how-to videos I could look at ?

thx again ......

Thx again for that. I managed to get everything out in one piece and a CR2032 battery installed.

But when powered up.....same problem.....turned on for a moment....and then shuts down...

A red light on a circuit board just inside the front panel seemed to stay on...but thats it.

Hate to dump this machine but I don't know what else to do.....I'm at the limit of my tech/ repair skills!

The approved method from this situation is to assume something in a slot is dragging down the power and causing an overload and power off.

remove all drives, disconnect the DVD reader(s). remove ALL cards in slot including graphics card plus any others. remove all RAM DIMMs. disconnect the keyboard and mouse and any other USB devices. you are left with just the chassis, nothing connected.

Power on. what happens?

closely observe the power-on indicator light. Is it blinking a code?

Hi again...

So I replaced the battery on this machine.....and thought I reattached everything correctly.

When I power up.....everything comes on, Apple 'chime' etc.....

but no picture appears on the monitor.

Graphics card was not installed correctly so.....did it again.

I've re-installed a number of times now, but still no image appears.

Its hard to see if the card is actually attached but I can feel it "click" into the PCI slot

so ...really can't see what the problem could be

Any thoughts?

thx
