iPad with VPN has issues with Apple News

My iPad was using WiFi until recently, now it says WLAN. Nothing else has changed. Now Apple News via VPN isn’t working (it had been connecting fine for the past year). Reset network didn’t work. I can’t find the instructions to fix like I once had.

I tried resetting network, restarting my iPad, turning on airplain mode, and even downloading a software update to no avail. Nothing else has changed for this to happen, it always said WiFi until recently. The last time this happened to my phone it caused connection issues, this is happening now with my iPad. I can no longer access apple news like I have been this past year (in this same region). Can switching vpns on and off have caused this? My other devices are connecting to wifi just fine. I want my iPad to be back to normal as well. I once had the WLAN issue and found instructions to fix, now it seems these instructions are no longer available.

Delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile.

when you install VPN it configures itself to the specific hardware, OS version and network that the device uses. If any of those change it can break the VPN. So any time you change any of these you may need to delete the VPN app and profile, restart your iPhone, iPad or Mac then add them back (if you still want to use VPN) so it can configure itself to the new environment.

But there was also an issue with 18.0.1 that “broke” some VPNs. Updating to 18.1 should fix it if this was the problem.
