I can make clips from several movies I've imported, say for example Christmas, but I want to copy them all into a new video or project. Copy and Paste doesn't work. I have reviewed multiple tutorials and this is never mentioned

Do Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy. Then open the new project, click on the time line, and do Edit/Paste. Should work. Your edits will carry over.

From a work flow standpoint, put the clips into an Event. From there you can draw on the clips in the Event to populate any projects that you want. Then you make your edits in the project.
