Connect macbook to outside monitor

My macbook screen has been broken so I need to connect to the monitor but when I connect it shows only the screen I can open the setting, Finder but when I try to open the program It did not show up. I do not know why. If anyone knows how to fix it. Please help. Thank you

If your internal display is broken, you need to have the external display in mirroring mode, not extended mode. Press Command+F1 to toggle into mirroring mode. Since you can see the menu bar, you can also access that setting via the control panel.
