Apple watch shows "new workout" on face instead of deteails of last workout

I have the "workout" complication on my apple watch face. It used to show the details of my last workout (i.e. 10.3 km Outdoor walk") on the complication, and now it just shows "new workout". It happened on my old series 6 watch a little while ago, but I just upgraded to a series 10 and it does the same thing. In the watch app it shows the detail on the "My Faces" view so I presume it should work. I couldn't find much on a search, just a reddit message saying to reload the watch and sometimes that fixes it. Is there a setting or other fix that I can use to see the details on the face?

This issue with the "Workout" complication showing "New Workout" instead of the details from your last workout might be due to a bug in watchOS or a syncing issue between your Apple Watch and iPhone.

  1. Force Restart the Watch: Press and hold both the Side Button and the Digital Crown until the Apple logo appears. This sometimes resolves display issues.
  2. Check Your Workout Settings:
    • On your iPhone, open the Watch app.
    • Go to My Watch > Workout and ensure all relevant settings are enabled.
  1. Re-add the Workout Complication:
    • Go to My Watch in the Watch app on your iPhone, select the watch face, remove the Workout complication, and then add it back.
  1. Software Update: Ensure that both your Apple Watch and iPhone are fully updated to the latest versions of watchOS and iOS, as updates can resolve known issues.
