What—logging in or something differnt? Terminal.app never echos psswd.

Login screen The psswd will not show only the place holder, ex: *****

psswd are case sensitive.

you can try —A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies. You do not have to log in here, then reboot as normal and compare your results.

Reboot the Mac and try again.

Have you changed the batteries or recharged the wireless keyboard lately?
