MacBook Pro experiencing touch bar flickering issue

I have 13-inch 2020 Macbook Pro that began experiencing the dreaded touch bar flickering issue a few months ago. The computer has been kept in great condition and has never been damaged.

OS version is Sonoma 14.4.1.

I have already tried:

  • restart macbook
  • reset touch bar via Terminal: sudo pkill TouchBarServer
  • Reset the SMC
  • Reset NVRAM/PRAM
  • Update MacOS
  • Remove every button by Settings > Keyboard > Touch Bar Settings > Show control strip (off) + Touch bar shows: Quick actions.

Nothing helps.

Any suggestions, please?

I would suspect a hardware issue.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

Make an appointment for a "hardware issue"

Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

Outside the USA

Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

all the above trouble shooting would indicate an Intel Mac..

for the M1 SoC Mac the best you can do is a

SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

please note the current Sonoma is macOS 14.7.1
