Apple Cash permanently restricted

So I turned 18 yesterday, so I decided to setup Apple Cash so I can iMessage friends money etc. I have no credit history or anything because I just turned 18. After I entered birthday name SSN etc to setup the account it says I’m restricted. When I called support they tell me it’s a permanent restriction as a “business” decision.

I don’t have any fraud or any suspicious activity I don’t think because I turned 18 yesterday and never owned a card or anything. So I don’t see why Apple Cash/Green dot bank just permanently banned me when I made an Apple Cash account the day I turned 18.

any help would be appreciated

thank you

Checkxsystems/lexisnexis still waiting, I just tried the myfico app and made a free account, put my social security number name address etc

then when I tried to do the final step in it said this

Unfortunately, we cannot process your order at this time

This is because your data from Equifax does not meet the minimum requirements for calculating a FICO®Score

  1. At least one credit account which has been open for 6 months or more.
  2. At least one credit account that has been updated in the past 6 months.

For further details, you can visit our credit education center.

ive had my credit card for less then a month, turned 18 oct 29th and didnt get a card till Nov 7th

got a 2nd card maybe Nov 12th from capital one

so it lines up when it says I have no credit account for 6 months

ill get back to you when checkxsystems finally gives me something

thank you

Get a copy of four of your credit reports. Someone could have stolen your SSN and opened fraudulent accounts in your name.

So I've checked and nothing suspicious, it showed the first time a company checked my credit was on the 29th the day I turned 18th when I applied for an Apple credit card and a few days later shows Capital One when I applied to them. No events before the 29th. Captial One and Kinecta Credit Union both gave me cards, Apple card didn't get due to an invalid credit history which adds up because I turned 18 that day. So everything else adds up but I don't see why my Apple Wallet account is banned. The day I turned 18 I entered my SSN birthdate etc and says permanently restricted. Every time I call they don't give me a reason, one time the support person slipped up and said something about identify verification issue and that she couldn't reset it. I only gave my birthday SSN address and never got asked for an ID Picture. I asked if I could send my passport or ID to verify but they won't work with me. The reason it took a while to respond to this is I filled a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and they emailed Apple/Green Dot Bank who then a few days later Green Dot called me in the morning, saying they were sorry but a "business decision" has been made and even after the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau told them to talk to me they still didn't give me a reason, ive been 18 less then a month and don't have any history so I don't see the issue, I would like to use apple wallet so I can iMessage $5 to a friend for meals and stuff like that but the support has not worked with me at all.

Did you pull all 4 reports? I suspect something with your social security number showed up. Banks typically use ChexSystems for background information too.

Banks are private businesses. They do not need to give a reason.

Let me guess you posted your issue on Reddit and they said file a CFPB complaint? I’m I correct?

I was only able to pull 2 of the 4, experian gave me an error lexis nexis had some issues also. The other 2 didn’t show anything suspicious activity. But I didn’t have a credit score. Even my bank apps says it seems you still building credit and doesn’t show my a credit score. So I think I have to wait a bit before I get accurate results as I’ve been 18 for less then a month. I didn’t post my issues on Reddit, I saw someone on Apple forum say they filled a compliant and green dot got back to them and fixed the issue or atleast gave them some info. I didn’t see any other option because credit wise nothing seemed wrong, just that I’m don’t have any history. I’m just lucky I didn’t have money in it like I’ve seen some people get stuck with. I’ll check that site you just linked now and see if anything suspicious. But as the lady mentioned to me that one time on support call she said Id verification failed. If that is the problem you have any ideas how to deal with that as it seems they do not want to work with me and verify. I mean it’s a private company so I assume they are within their rights but would be nice if they company would be willing to work with me. Worst case even if my SSN was stolen and I went to the police or whatever agency to fix that issue, even after they green dot would have no legal obligation to let me get Apple Cash. So I assume no matter what I do I’m locked out of it unfortunately.

If you can find an incident of identity theft, then the issue is clear. Another alternative is talking to Apple Support, not Green Dot and seeing if it’s an identity issue.

The money would have been restricted for 30 days and you’d have been allowed to transfer the funds. The funds that are locked are usually the result of suspected fraud, not identity issues. No body wants fraudulent funds, not even the bank. The bank locks it all up in case somebody comes looking for it. If nobody comes for it, it’s turned over to the state and they put it in an unclaimed funds account and the owner can claim it from the state.

Try to get your ChexSystem report. Virtually all banks use it.

Just a small update

tried to make an account with checkxsystems but it wouldn’t let me because they couldn’t make security questions to verify me, so they had me call the company they work with for that lexisnexis to have them verify me then go back to checkxsystems. So that process is still ongoing. I also tried to make an account with green dot bank itself and the page would say can’t verify who I am and can’t make account. So it seems both times for green dot and apple green dot they can’t verify who I am. But no time did they ask for id so I don’t see how I can prove to them I am who I am without them asking for id or wanting to work with me. Currently waiting on checkxsystems but so far nothing unusual or suspicious credit wise except for me having basically no history.

Thank You
