Unable to update my MacBook Pro to macOS Sonoma 14.7.1
I'm not quite ready to upgrade to Sequoia, but I'm not able to click on the software update for 14.7.1. Its doesn't seem to have a hyperlink.

If you run from System Setting >> General >> Software update applet
If should present Both the Sonoma 14.7.1 update as well as the macOS 15.1 Sequoia UpGrade
You may need to scroll down in the presentation box to actually seen the Sonoma 14.7.1 update
Using this Software Update Applet does not offer a url link, just to clear up that up notion

Today I tried again in safe mode with no accessories connected and was able to update to 14.7.1 and then to 15.1
The only difference on my side is that i upgraded my modem to one that can use the 5G network connected into the same external antenna as my old 2017 4G modem. My download speeds are improved but still slow. Up from 12Mbps to up to 69Mbps not consistently they are up and down. Very rural location. Upload speed has now slowed from 10Mbps to 3Mbps.
The software update will prompt to download macOS Sonoma 14.7.1.
I received this same issue whenever I attempted to upgrade to 14.7.1 or Sequoia. After all attempts in this thread failed, I was able to find a resolution. My issue appears to be specific to MacBooks with Touch Bar.
The point of failure is BridgeOS (which runs the Touch Bar) erroring during the macOS update process. This was difficult to determine as the GUI gave a generic error message. Thankfully, updating through Terminal gave a more detailed error.
To resolve, Resetting the SMC did the trick.
I had all the problems mentioned above with the Sonoma 14.7.1 update (on a MacBook Air 2018 Intel) - tried all the above ways through (including Safe mode etc). Only route that worked for me was running the update direct from the App store. Now my music app doesn’t work though - another story and another comment coming elsewhere on this board :)
I managed to complete the update in Safe Mode without further issues. Thanks to those contributing.
Check your internet speed; have your provider run test on your modem. That worked for me.
I have MacBook Air and plenty of storage too and it is still doing the same thing that is keeps on failing this the message Failed to prepare the software update. Please try again. An error occurred while downloading the selected updates. Please check your internet connection and try again.
I have tried many times and using wired network but no results, please advise thank you
This is my issue as well. The update downloads and instructs me to restart computer. It begins the install and the progress bar is at about the half way mark when this error pops up. I've attempted multiple times with this same result.

I do see the 14.7.1 update, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I have plenty of storage space, and my internet is secure.
I solved the problem. It had to do with internet speed.
I have tried various times even on a a wired network but it keeps on failing
