Watch Series 10 face dims if I touch bezel

The dimming/blurring of the Series 10 watch face when I touch the bezel is not really a problem, but I'd like to know what it signifies. Is it the introduction to some action? Am I supposed to do something (or can I take some optional action) after touching the bezel?

I'm just curious about the phenomenon and its meaning. I've searched, but haven't found any mention of it.

It happens on all of them — GMT, California, Modular, Metropolitan, Color, Activity Digital.

But as I tested them, I think I figured it out. It's not just touching the bezel, it requires that I exxert a little pressure — and then when the watch face blues, I can drag my fingertip down to see notifications. Perhaps the blurring is just signaling that it's ready to show notifications if I drag down.
