Burning mpeg files to dvd+r

I have uploaded mpeg files from my sony handycam to my Mac, but am having issues trying to burn them to disk. I am not that tech savvy so I need assistance "for dummies" to figure it out. I suspect they need to be 'converted' somehow but I'm very wary of just downloading random software from the web.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

Convert old MOV files to MP4 I found a couple of MOV files that I created nearly 20 years ago. I've not had any luck trying to convert them to MP4s with VLC (error message: cannot process dvau), iMovie (see image with greyed-out MOV files), or QuickTime 10 (Catalina). I believe they were originally viewable in QuickTime 7, but that's a thing of the past. BTW, I can still see all of the media clips separately in the MEDIA folder; I need to find a way of integrating them into a viewable video. Any suggestions on how to convert? [Edited by Moderator]

Import a home movie DVD into iMovie for editing Can anybody please tell me the best way to import DVD home videos onto my iMac and edit them using iMovie? I have done the usual google search and downloaded some DVD ripping software, this iMac blocked the installation, thankfully as I was sceptical of programs like Openshiiva and Leawo software. I would prefer to use trusted software even if it means buying it, any advice on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Terry

You can get Toast, which will burn dvd's for a dvd player, and has been around a long time.

What do you mean by "burning to disk"?

Do you want a disk playable in a DVD player?

Do just want to store the actual mpeg file on the DVD?

Hi Keith, I just want to burn them to DVD disk so my kids can watch them with my grandkids on a dvd player
