Can't access iTunes music on iPod Touch

My iPod Touch for no apparent reason would not power on. I took it to the Apple Store and they restored it by installing the latest OS. After setting up the iPod, I connected it to my PC and synced the music from iTunes.

Now when I tap the Music icon on the iPod, I cannot access the music. Instead, it wants me to subscribe to Apple Music. Am I no longer able to play all my iTunes music on the iPod without an Apple Music subscription? Has Apple sabotaged my iPod in order to try and force me to subscribe to Apple Music?

iPod, iOS 9
