Just got an iPhone 16 pro and a 4TB LaCie mini rugged flash drive. I thought I could connect the drive to the phone but when I try the phone tells me it's not compatible with Thunderbolt devices.
I don't know what a Thunderbolt device is (sorry, never understood this) but apparently that's what I have.
The LaCie works fine with my M3 Macbook.
Do I need to buy a different type of flash drive to use with my iPhone?

Ya, lesson learned for me. I wanted the extra storage for shooting pro-res 4k/60; didn't know about iPhone incompatibility with Thunderbolt.
It may be as simple as using a true Thunderbolt 3 cable. Are you using one? I've seen where people had issues using anything Thunderbolt without a Thunderbolt cable. It might be worth a try.
Thanks, I've seen that. And it works for several of my storage devices: a SanDisk iExpand flash pen, a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD for example.
It's just my new LaCie SSD that won't connect. Even though it says it's "USB-C Thunderbolt." I guess that's different from simple "USB-C" and my mistake for buying something with Thunderbolt in its name.
Or, might there be an adapter?
Doubtful many if any here, have any experience with this flash drive. Best to contact the manufacturer of the drive to see how or if it can used with your iPhone.
