Can’t past a screenshot anymore in pdf preview since iOS18 (iPad)

Everything that comes next deals with the Apple pdf preview (just to be clear, this means opening a pdf file from the Files app)

With my iPad running under iPadOS 17.x I was using the function to take a screenshot inside the pdf preview, adjust the portion of the screenshot I want to keep, then press ‘OK’ and ‘Copy and Delete’ and back in the pdf preview in edit mode (pencil highlighted), long-press where I wanted to past my screenshot (a pop-up menu was appearing with the ‘paste’ option). This is still possible today with an iPad running iOS 17.x but this is no more possible under iPadOS 18 or 18.1 because the option to paste is no more available while long-pressing in the doc…

I found so far no other way of doing the same.

Can someone help me please ?

Thanks a lot !

I am myself running iPadOS 18.1 on an iPad Pro. Your workflow, as described, works without issue. As such, as I'm unsure where the process is going awry for you.

If your iPad is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to help with troubleshooting:

Hi LotusPilot,

Thanks a lot for your fast and detailed answer. Good to know the described workflow is still supposed to work with iOS 18.x.

I tried the forced restart, unfortunately it didn’t solve the issue. I’m hesitating doing the settings reset (might be a bit painful to set everything up again…). For now I downloaded the Apple Support App (which I didn’t know 🫢, thanks for the good hint 👍) and will try this path first.

I will keep you posted (also in case someone else is facing the same issue).

Thank You so much !
