Faint "beep-boop" sighing sound from MBP when moving cursor around via trackpad on lock screen - Why?

The 2021 Apple M1 Max MBP with Ventura 13.2.1 was making this sighing beep-boop sound, higher pitch to lower pitch. At first, it was a lot of these types of sounds at random intervals (all the same type of sound) that occurred when the computer went to sleep after the appropriate amount of time had passed and then I tried to log in again. When I hit Enter to login, there were a lot of these sounds occurring, and while this was happening, I noticed my left palm was ALSO on the trackpad with my right thumb / palm as well.

Knowing this, afterwards, I was able to replicate this sound once or twice each time I manually locked the screen and tried to sign back on again by putting both hands on the trackpad and sliding them around until the sound emitted once or twice while on the lock screen before logging in.

The sound does not appear to be found within the 14 sounds available for the Alert sound. I had Jump originally, then changed to Funky, and I was still able to replicate this sound. For what it's worth, the beep-boop sighing sound is also lower in volume than the Alert sound.

I managed to record this sound with my phone:***. In the recording, you can hear me moving my fingers on the trackpad pretty rapidly and then you hear the sound.

Note that I cannot seem to replicate this sound after I restarted the computer; instead, I'm able to get the Alert sound to play on a much more consistent basis, interestingly.

Any ideas on why this sound is occurring?

f the souInd occurs when you hold your hand or fingers on the track pad, it may be that you are repeating a command or gesture (by not releasing the trackpad) and that causes the sound. It might be analogous to hold a mouse button down or holding an arrow key down without releasing.

Alternatively, if the sound went away after a reboot, there might have been a command unintentionally given by your holding down the hand or finger on the track pad that is gone with the reboot. You might try restarting into Safe Mode (Apple has instructions for that, they vary by model) which will clear out some cache memories, but sometimes a reboot eliminates odd problems like this.

Consider downloading and running this little "discovery" utility, Etrecheck. It changes NOTHING. Etrecheck was developed by senior contributor here, and uses system calls to collect often-needed information.

it contains little tests for speeds of devices, CPU utilization, memory usage, energy usage and a digest of recent problems, in one easy to use package. it does not even need to be Installed. Because less can be learned when your Mac is running great, best time to run is when your problems are actually occurring, if possible.

if you follow the directions faithfully, its report (pre-laundered of all personally-identifiable information) can be "Shared" to the System ClipBoard, then Pasted into an ‘Additional Text’ window in a reply on the forums.

Use Etrecheck Pro for free:

then start a reply on the forums, and PASTE the system clipboard into an additional text Window:
