My iMac late 2014 does not support shared photos, so I need to get them back into my photos app and albums. I can download them to my desktop from iCloud.com but I want them back from where they came. My 12000 photos are fine on my macbook, iPhone and apple tv. Any help will be highly appreciated

I'm not sure what "get my photos back from iCloud to Photos" means, exactly. iCloud Photos is a synchronization service. It makes all the pictures on every connected device exactly the same. So if your Mac's Photos is connected to iCloud Photos, then the pictures you have in the Mac's Photos are exactly the same as the ones at iCloud Photos. There should be no pictures to get back.
Perhaps you need to give us some more information so we can understand what you mean.
