Can’t add Gmail account to apple mail

iPhone 16 Pro with 18.1 iOS will not add my second google mail account. I’ve gone through the steps several times with no luck. Strange it allowed me to add one of them with no issues.

That’s a gmail problem, not an iPhone problem. If you are using 2FA on your gmail account you may need to create an app-specific password in gmail Security settings to use the Apple Mail app. If you instead use the gmail app you shouldn’t have this problem.

Log in to the account at gmail.com. Click on Security, and look for Create app specific passwords and create one for the iPhone mail app. then use this password during setup.

that email address works fine on my MacBook Pro and in google mail app on my phone

Hi Lawrence,

Well, I didn’t exactly get your last list of instructions totally completed but I must have gotten enough of it accomplished because I just opened Apple mail on my phone, then went the usual steps but this time it worked! Thanks so much! 🙌🏽

I don’t think I understand what you’re saying. 2FA?

I have 2 gmail accounts. One set up easily the one not so much.
