disable thumbnail preview on ipad ios 18.1 when taking a screenshot

when taking a screenshot on the ipad, by pressing the power button and home button at the same time, it creates a thumbnail which lingers in the bottom left corner then disappears..

forcing me to wait or swiping on it left to get rid off it..

when taking a screenshot the creen already flashes, so why the redundancy?

it is very annoying and interupts my work flow by covering up the bottom left of he screen for several seconds.. and i hate having to swipe to get rid of it..

i just want to be able to take rapid screenshots without waiting for the thumbnail to dissapear..

iPad, iPadOS 18

When using the two physical buttons to trigger the screenshot, you will indeed see a thumbnail image of the screenshot - which, by design, will remain on screen for a few seconds. This behaviour is not configurable - however, when taking rapid or subsequent screenshots, the thumbnail image is automatically dismissed.

If you tap the thumbnail image while it remains visible, this will open the markup page where image can be edited prior to performing other actions - or saving as photo or PDF file to a specific path. If you don't tap the thumbnail, the screenshot image will be automatically saved to your Photo Library as an image file.

If instead you trigger a screenshot using a corner-swipe gesture, using your finger or Apple Pencil, the thumbnail image is not displayed - but instead the screenshot is initially opened in markup/editing page.

Settings > Multitasking & Gestures >

  • Swipe Finger from Corner - set to ON
  • Bottom Left Corner > select Screenshot, Quick Note or Off as required
  • Bottom Right Corner > select Screenshot, Quick Note or Off as required

Settings > Apple Pencil > [Pencil Gestures]

  • Bottom Left Corner - select Screenshot, Quick Note or Off as required
  • bottom Right Corner - select Screenshot, Quick Note or Off as required
