Is it possible to restore data after iPhone theft?

My iphone11 was stolen and found later. Unfortunately the last year data wasn’t backed up. The one who stoled the phone has inserted the password incorrectly many times so the phone has blocked. What shall I do to restore my data of last year?

Anything that existed only on that phone, and nowhere else, is gone. My understanding is that the only way to get into that phone now is to erase everything on it.

There are a couple of cases where your data might exist outside of the phone even if you were't making backups.

  • If you were synchronizing data to iCloud, data that made it to Apple's servers would have survived, and you could see it by logging into https://www.icloud.com/ or by synchronizing another Apple device against iCloud.
  • Likewise, if you were accessing e-mail on the phone, chances are you were using an IMAP connection where the master copies of your e-mail actually reside on your e-mail provider's servers.

These are the exceptions that prove the rule.

Unfortunately then, you will not be able to restore anything from the last year.

Please make a note to start today to automatically back up your phone overnight every night so something like this will never happen again.

Yea all it takes is someone to put the password in too many times and they can completely wipe your phone. Had this happen to me, I lost almost 3 years of data because my phone screen broke and entered my password wrong too many times. Pretty dumb design if you ask me.

All you can do is get mad and then learn from it going forward. I now use amazon photos to backup all my photos/videos to the cloud and once in a while I plug my phone into my computer and backup to itunes (although I just bought a 1TB external hard drive so I’m going to start using that now)
