I found what I think is a stolen work IPAD. Someone must’ve stole it and threw it out in my yard when they couldn’t get past the administration lock. I can’t get into the Ipad to figure out who or where to return it to.

Only the owner can provide contact information when found if they choose to do that. You will not be able to get any information about the owner unless they want to provide it. They are able to still track the device so they do know where it is. If it is currently in your house, they may be knocking on your door. I would not recommend that approach and would instead suggest to take it to a local police station, library, or community lost and found. That way they can track it to that location and pick it up.

If that is your suspicion, and I think it is a real possibility given the circumstances, turn over to the police, not Lost and Found. Law enforcement can search databases of stolen items for serial number, and possibly associate that with recent theft reports even without the serial number.
